Tales from a Twitter Entrepreneur

We want tourists to use TripTwit to get an instant sense of what is going on in the place they’re visiting. What’s unique about TripTwit is it’s relevancy. When you search New York you’re not going to see tweets from a tourist saying “I love New York!”. Instead you’re going to see tweets about restaurant specials, hotel discounts, museum exhibits, etc. There is a lot of business logic behind the scenes to cut down on the noise that’s prevalent on Twitter so that a user is only seeing tweets that are useful. Additionally, there are numerous filter and search options to further improve relevancy. For example, you can choose to see tweets from local nightlife or search for children’s events that are happening in real-time. Continue reading

How Facebook is a Political Heavyweight

Facebook, and innovative developers have created a suite of new tools to deepen its relationships with voters, help undecideds explore politicians and be the hub of political news. Oh My Gov hosts polls to measure the voter sentiment on hot-button political issues – particularly as it relates to social media. One polls asks whether there should be a social network exclusively for government employees. (The majority of voters say such a network scares them.) And Facebook is branching out beyond polls and fan pages to become a hub of political information. The social network is streaming live reports from ABC News on election night from its Facebook HQ. Strategies to Integrate PR and Social Media

One such example was devised by MINI, the automobile brand. At the beginning of June, they issued a bold challenge to automaker Porsche that dared them to compete against a MINI at a particular race course on a particular day. Naturally, one company issuing a challenge to another piques interest, particularly when it’s a cheeky brand like MINI calling the shots. After issuing the challenge MINI had a constant stream of multimedia to maintain interest and was documented on MINI’s Facebook site, like an open letter to Porsche titled “Bring It, Porsche”, a video parody of Rocky IV at funnyordie.com showing the two cars training for the title fight, an image of MINI flying a taunting banner over Porsche’s headquarters, and later on the official letter from Porsche declining the challenge. Transparency In The Community

I recently stumbled upon a series of brutally honest fables that includes classics such as Sexy Woman Mooches off of Horny Short Men, Duck with Low Self Esteem is Tormented, and Little Spoiled Brat Robs Innocent Animals. To some these re-titled fairy tales are what the titles for classic stories really should be. They do just what any good title should do. They tell you what the story is about. While these might seem a bit outrageous, the truth is that these are spot-on trend with the move towards a more human, real, transparent discourse that is ongoing. Consumers are wary of the hype and would rather know the truth. Continue reading

The Power & Influence of Social Media: Shifting Consumer Behaviors

Social media has had explosive growth as a “trustworthy source” because so many individuals look to social media in their personal life, work life, and everyday life. From Facebook to Twitter, and LinkedIn to Evernote, we’re constantly surrounded by family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances that rely heavily on social media sources as their primary sources for information and relevant content.
